The key words and approach here is - REACT vs. RESPOND.
"React" -- is when a hot button or emotional button in us or others is touched and a person has an immediate way of rallying or rushing to that emotion or hot button. It does not necessarily reflect how they want to show up or how they want to interact. It usually creates a discord between people and misunderstandings. This is very common in our culture.
"Respond" -- is a learned way of approaching our lives and interacting with others, for our greatest satisfaction and outcomes. Learning how to do this allows us to not only explore and understand ourselves better, but helps us to understand others better. It means we have the opportunity to appreciate and engage with our lives and the people in our lives in fulfilling ways. It offers growth in our self - and ways we can grow with others, whether personally or in our business or work environment.
Responding involves EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.
This is something we can learn. It gives off a resonance of us, how we show up in the world, and how we want to be perceived. While we cannot control others and how others think-feel-act, we can develop how we ourselves want to thnk-feel-act, and to teach others how we want to be treated. It also give us a perspective that while most people in the world are very reactionary to most things, we do not need to behave that way.
While I have attained Emotional Intelligence, there will still be things that press my buttons (in reaction or even overreaction), causing me to back up and have to rework it. Then I ask myself - what is the outcome I want? If I react, I know I won't get the outcome I am seeking, and will show up in a way that teaches people to treat me in a way I don't want. The better choice for me then - is responding in a way for a better outcome. Living in the culture we do - with hot buttons everywhere, and overreaction is large, Emotional Intelligence is key to finding inner peace.
Learning EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, makes all things that much more possible and opportunities more abounding.
