Awakening and awareness can be scary at first.
We all go through this. What causes this?
Awakening begins with the journey to self.
In order to move ourselves through the daily grind, we often lock up part of our selves, memories, things that feel like inner or outer obstacles, how we feel about ourselves, how we feel about others, unresolved and unhealed inner things – in a metaphoric internal room, with the door closed, locked up perhaps. Sound familiar?
It may help to feel that by doing this we are unimpeded moving forward with our lives. Unfortunately, it can dissuade us, or veer us off the course we hoped and dreamt of, or make what we want seem out of reach until we give up on it. If we give up on what we want – it can sometimes become reawakened when we face a major crisis in our life and we reexamine the life we’re in vs. the life we want. That happened to me several years ago, before I ever became a Certified Professional Coach. It was my awakening.
This is a good part of why it can be scary to start coaching for most. It is a leap of faith. The leap really is the faith of you, your commitment to you. Only part of it is about trusting another person with your private life in confidentiality; with the right coach, this melts away in less than an hour of interaction.
What is most scary to all – and usually not realized until later, is our Inner Gremlin. Yes, a Gremlin, and we can have more than one. We all have them. An inner gremlin is the voice that talks us down, gets us stuck, stops us from opening to our possibilities, stops us from pursuing what we want, and even stops us – from thinking about what we want. It is as though we feel we are not “allowed to” have something. We “should do” something else.
As one of my clients once said and wrote a blog on, “I was shoulding all over myself.”
In coaching, as we move through what I call Discovery, we peel the onion and eventually find that Gremlin. Though at coaching school I trained how to help my clients move through and past Gremlin, I’ve devised my own process.
Once a person moves through the Gremlin process and it has been released, we begin one or more customized Affirmations to replace the inner voice to something that works for you. It sounds simplistic and perhaps small, but it is very large. It is repatterning the template of our being, absorbed into our psyche, it is a re-set. By absorbing this new voice that you prefer, it alters your thoughts, emotions, actions, and outcomes to what it is you want, as opposed to what it is you were dealt. You come into alignment with your True Self, Authentic Self. I.e., you have a say in your life and how the story will be going forward.
After releasing a Gremlin my clients say they feel so much freer in their business and their life, and that coaching is so much easier for them, inspiring, and fun.
