Remember years ago when I didn't know how to handle stress, I could not retain info I was trying to learn, would forget names and basic things like I had advanced Alzheimers. Now my coping skills and life direction is comfortably balanced, my memory is almost better than it's ever been. I say almost because in my early 20's had an usual off-hand memory - could recall what page something was on (an odd thing to remember). lol. Other than that my memory is better than ever.
This type of stress can do more harm than just to the memory. It can turn our lives upside down. It can affect perception of one’s self and the world around one, and can become a physical and emotional drain. It can hold a you back from and interfere with pursuing things you may want: like learning, having fun, sharing love, experiencing positive, fulfilling relationships of all types, or even enjoying time with yourself. It can hold you back in business, career, finding a job.
It can affect one’s health in different stages of severity. It may cause you to eat things you may not normally eat and more of it, it may cause you to drink more alcohol than you might normally drink, or do more social and/or pharmaceutical drugs than you might normally do or not do.
It is important to find some of the many ways that works for you to relieve stress. In addition, you can partner with someone who can help you add coping skills to your life toolbox. We all need a helping hand at times, it is healthy to reach out.
Take back your power, and become the metaphoric driver of your, instead of the car driving you.
