If you work in the
legal industry,
you are a big achiever.
Whether you are a
Partner of the firm, Management in the firm, an Of Counsel, Associate, or
Support Staff,
the pace is quick, the workload is large. It requires you be a big achiever in whatever capacity your job role is.
For most in the legal industry, there is good money to be made(except of course if you're just out of law school and working for a temp job, hourly wage, filling the large 40 person rooms).
If you work as a solo practitioner after law school, it is a whole other game. This post is mostly directed to the experience in the corporate sector.
Attorneys make big bucks (the industry I worked in for more than 20 years), there is usually satisfaction with their finances.
Over time, however, it can be challenging, due to:
. climbing the ladder,
. long hours with large workloads,
. trying to get in league with the movers and shakers,
. as a partner in the firm, always needing to make the monthly profit quota with a possible threat of the chopping block if you don't, always seeking to bring in new business,
. the one-upping between firm partners and between associates, and
. support staff always learning new technical skills, keeping up with an always increasing workload
Over time, one can for the sake of the money, loose track of why they went into the law field. After financial security, where is the satisfaction?
As you support your family financially, and if single, yourself, where is your satisfaction in the Wheel of Life.
Many experience:
. losing touch with their intimate partners,
. have less time to spend with their children,
. forget about the things they enjoy and love doing,
. sacrifice their health until it creates a crisis, and
. can forget the very reasons they went into the law field to begin with.
Is it time to check-in with yourself?
